Vision Therapy

Optometric vision therapy is a personalized, evidenced based program designed to provide a patient with meaningful visual experiences. The program is similar to occupational therapy, physical therapy or speech-language therapy and acts on neural connections to improve visual skills and barriers to learning. This is done to improve vision and visual efficiency – focusing, tracking, convergence, stereopsis (depth perception). The program relies on the concept of neuro-plasticity to improve visual dysfunctions. Improvements in reading, learning, sports-performance, concussions, and daily activities is the initial goal. There is no longer a sensitive period as some once believed. As long as prior intervention through therapy was not provided effectively we can see improvement depending on the condition. Through activities and procedures the program helps strengthen visual skills.
